Recycling Of Used Mobile Phones And Batteries
The Ministry of Local Government and Outer Islands is carrying out an awareness campaign on used mobiles and batteries and their adverse effects on human health and the environment, if wrongly disposed of, due to their hazardous contents.
To ensure safe disposal of these used mobiles and batteries and in order to mitigate their impacts on human health and the environment, the Ministry, together with the Mauritius Telecom Foundation, has come up with the initiative of recycling of used mobiles and batteries. 235 recycling boxes have been placed at strategic points all over the island. Of these, 50 boxes have been distributed to the following Local Authorities:
