OUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
In line with existing   laws   and regulations   the main duties of the Council are: 
  • The Construction, maintenance, lighting and cleaning of all public roads falling in the municipal jurisdiction.
  • Collection and removal of household, industrial, commercial and agricultural waste.
  • The construction and maintenance of open spaces, parks, gardens, bus shelters.
  • The provision and regulation of public market and fairs.
  • The processing and delivery of building and land use permits.
  • The provision and organization of welfare, social, sports, recreational, artistic and educational activities.
  • The control of pollution causing public and private nuisance.
  • The control of trade and premises used for commercial, industrial, professional and other related activity

STEPS FOR DECLARATION OF ROADS PUBLIC

1. Petitions received.

2. Petitioners requested to submit copy of title deeds with site plan.

3. Confirmation of road on title deed.

4. Estimate prepared and submitted in Works Committee for approval.

5. Upon approval road is included in Master List.

6. Upon availability of fund and approval of Council, notice is placed at the site to declare road public.

7. When objections, if any are received the following steps be taken:- 

   (a) Confirm whether objector is resident of the said lane.

   (b) Confirm whether objector is not a debtor of the Council.

   (c) Confirm % frontage of objector’s plot of land on the road.

   (d) Objection be rejected if objector: 

      (i) is not a resident of the road

      (ii) is a debtor of the Council

     (iii) does not have the majority of the frontage on the road.
