Speech of Mayor Bryan Rudy KENNOO
It is with great pleasure I am addressing to you as the newly elected Mayor of the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes and I express my gratitude to the trust the government representatives and fellow councillors have placed in me. Thank you so much, Dr the Hon Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister and leader of L’Alliance du Changement.
As newly elected councillors and Mayor we are conscious of the high confidence the citizens of the town have placed in us and they expect us to deliver. These expectations cannot be realised without the collaboration and support of each and every councillor. As councillors we are expected to fully endorse and abide by the Code of Ethics of Councillors and adhere to the principles of good governance and whose acceptance will bring out, I believe, a revolution in Local Government administration and a clear-cut line of demarcation from the past.
As it has been announced, the power of Local Government would be increased by giving Local Authorities greater autonomy in the execution of infrastructural projects and better delivery of services to local citizens. We pledge as councillors to work as a solid team and bring the ‘’changement’’ expected by our citizens.
For the better running of the council, we are sure to get the full support of the central government through our Minister Honourable Ranjiv Woochit, and Honourable Arvin Boolell, Honourable Baloomoody and Honourable Anquetil. Similarly, the elected representatives should rest assured of our total collaboration in their desire to improve the quality of life of our citizens. We assure Honourable members of our total support in our endeavour to fulfill our mandate for which we wish to get the full collaboration of the officers of the council and for this, I thank you in advance.
Through this message, I wish to thank the electors of Quatre Bornes who have supported us and put the trust in us.
We, as newly elected councillors, will listen to the grievances of all citizens of Quatre Bornes and as far as possible will try to find practical solutions.
I have in mind the realisation of a few projects of public interest like:
1. tree plantation to alleviate the effects of climate change.
2. improve the township infrastructure, drains and other works that can help to avoid flooding in the township, in collaboration with all Ministries and Authorities concerned.
3. as young councillors, we shall have at heart the promotion of sports and leisure as well.
It is a must also to make the town environmentally friendly to our residents.
