Guidelines: Scavenging and Weeding Services
Scavenging service in the town of Quatre Bornes is provided by Municipal Labour and partly by private contractor.
The town has been divided into regions namely:-
Region 1: Belle Rose, Pellegrin, Trianon serviced by Municipal labour
Region 2: Part of Old Quatre Bornes serviced by Municipal labour
(From Victoria Avenue to Farquar Avenue)
Region 3: Palma, Bassin, La Source
& part Old Quatre Bornes serviced by Private Contractor
(From Farquar Avenue to Berthaud Avenue)
Region 4: Morc. St. Jean and Sodnac
Cossigny Avenue and Candos serviced by Municipal labour
In the region serviced by Private Contractor: A twice weekly service is provided
In the region serviced by In house labour: A once weekly service is provided. However in some regions (about 50%) we manage to provide a twice weekly service during the winter season.
Physical Resources used:
215 refuse collectors
22 drivers
Vehicle strength: 11 tipper lorries
2 compactors
Regions 1, 2 and 4 have been divided into different sections. Each section is being serviced by a team comprising of one driver/scavenging supervisor and 9-10 refuse collectors.
Weeding & Herbicide Spraying
Herbicide spraying is carried out alongside all public roads.
Weeding is carried out normally near schools and alongside main roads.
Larviciding and fogging is done with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life as and when required.
Barelands
Council’s aim is to have all barelands cleaned and fenced. Hence owners are constantly called upon to clean their barelands failing which prosecution may be initiated.
The Council is also cleaning (where possible) barelands whose owners are at present untraceable.
Drains
There are three types of drains, as follows:

Drains on classified roads are maintained by the Road Development Authority. (RDA)
Nuisances
Nuisances are normally abated by the Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life and the Ministry of Environment.
Cremation Grounds
The Health Department is also responsible for the cleaning and functioning of the cremation grounds namely at Trianon, Berthaud, Palma and also the Gas Crematorium at Palma.
